My next idea for an art show to drag Matt Stallings into was something that played to his strengths and my interests. He paints a lot of mash up, celebrity/pop culture portraits, and I just like painting faces. So I figured a show that was just entirely focused on portraits would be fun and easy to do without feeling too theme-y. I started reaching a point around this time where I didn’t want to make art that had some sort of meaning necessarily, like some message or critique of society. I just wanted to paint what I liked. So I just painted people I liked. Some were celebrities and some were my friends. Nothing more than that. This was right before all the Bill Cosby stuff, but yeah. I like the Cosby Show. And Julie Andrews, well she had some good ideas.
